How can I cement coating on the board?

I have a shower (no door) and was planning on using cement board, wall and floor. Do I have to use a vapor barrier behind the cement board in which context? If so, what type? Simply put the tile on the board (wall and floor) with thinset? What kind of thinset? Any help is appreciated! Thx

I've done this more times than I can remember. In another answer, he said, a vapor barrier is necessary for insulated walls. Dampen the cement board with a sponge before applying the tiles to the cement board will not pull moisture from the thinset too fast. Use thinset, not mastic, as putty is water soluble and will not work for applications in wet areas.
