What color should I paint my bedroom?

We are having trouble deciding what color to paint the room! found in an old Victorian house that has the original fireplace in his home, so he will not change that. and pictures around the fireplace are mauve (Ew.) the hall is wise, one bedroom is gray and the other is yellow. so can not be any of those colors. I'm not going to paint pink or red. is pink and looks terrible with mauve. I think red would be worse. Moreover, its me and my boyfriend ... so has be for a boy and a girl. I do not want to wall paper because it is plastered walls 111 years old (I live in a historic home). I fear that the wall paper will ruin the walls if I ever want to do it.
