Installation of paper-faced Glass Mosaic Tiles

by Gary Piscopo

In the last edition, we talk about creating your own role in the face glass mosaic tiles. Today, we will go into detail about how to install the tiles you made.

Installation of paper, glass mosaic tiles, front takes a little patience and requires some attention to detail. Paper facing is typically used for glass tiles that have some level of translucency to them and that if a mesh support was used may show through the finished tile. The paper face allows you to install the boxes without support, so if you see through the tile will not see the underlying mesh. Face book pictures are also popular because it costs less to manufacture fiberglass mesh-backed tiles, thus that can be acquired at a lower price. If you are good at paying attention to detail and not rushing through your project, you will find that installing paper face paintings can be very rewarding.

The tools necessary for installation of paper boxes they face are the same as used for the installation other boxes. You may have to use a saw if you have curves that have to be cut. For this a stained glass cutter is very popular.

The requirements to the back (the wall behind the tables) are the same as are ceramic tiles. Be sure to choose the appropriate support according to the environment that will installing floor tiles. Use cement board for showers and high humidity areas, green areas with Board for occasional moisture, and drywall in areas that are sure not receive any moisture. If you use the wrong back there is a danger of the tiles come loose years down the road.

Because glass tiles have a bit of translucency, you must use a latex-modified, thin-white to adhere the tiles. You can easily find this in your local building supply. Let them know you will be the installation of glass tiles and give the appropriate fine set. (Just verify for themselves same as white.) When you mix the thin set, it is not perfectly white. The set will look thinner gray than white, if the label says white then you have the correct color. Va streamline and be much closer to white once it dries.

Once you have collected your tools, surface preparation, marked reference a few lines, and its mix of thin, you're ready to begin installing the tiles. Follow these steps for the adjustment process.

Apply thin set 1) with the notched end of your palette, holding the trowel at about 45 degrees to the surface. The notches will measure just enough to make it thin the surface.

2) Using the flat side of your trowel lightly flatten the peaks and valleys eliminate fine series. This is so that there is no empty space behind pictures, as this will show through the clear boxes clear and semiprecious stones. Be sure not to delete any of the thin-set or move, as measured just the right amount in the previous step.

3) Set your first sheet of tiles in the thin set, making sure it conforms to the reference lines you created during preparation. Press the pictures with the company, but even pressure. Apply alignment adjacent sheets of tiles with pictures of the first sheet. Be sure to adjust the spacing between sheets to match the space between the tiles. How the leaves of row and proper segregation is essential for success the project, so take your time at this point and make it look good.

4) Using a wooden beating block (a short piece of 2x4 or other wood block those), even off the surface of the tables with light tapping with a hammer on the block beating. This ensures that there are no raised floor tiles and the finished surface is flat and smooth.

5) Apply the remaining sheets using the same process.

6) After 20 minutes you need to remove the paper. Using a wet sponge, dampen the paper in tiles. Keep the paper wet for 10 minutes, dissolve the glue that holds the paper to the tile.

7) Carefully remove the paper from the boxes. The document should be easy to remove if the glue has dissolved completely. When removing the paper, pull it on itself to ensure that no lifting all the tiles.

8) Replace any tiles that are chipped or cracked. Normally, you find a pair of tiles that need replacement. Lift the cut tile with a screwdriver then apply a small amount of thin in the back of the replacement tile (the back of butter). Firmly press the tile into instead. Make sure the surface of the tile replacement, even with the tables around her.

9) Allow the tile to cure for a minimum 24 hours.

10) Clean any remaining glue from the tiles with a sponge, warm water and a nylon scrub brush. Let the tile dry before going to the next step.

11) You are ready to apply the grout. You want to use a non-sand grout in a color that compliments the color of your tiles. I recommend using a color similar, but in a lighter shade. (If you are unsure about the shadow, it is better to err on the lighter side.) Using a rubber grout float, work the grout in the spaces between tiles. Hold the float at about 45 degrees to the work surface of the grout into the spaces between tiles. For the final step, using a sweep diagonally -- this ensures that the spaces have grout to the surface of the paintings.

12) Remove extra grout from the surface of the glass plates with rubber float; exploitation almost 90 degrees to the surface and scraping in a diagonal path. Be sure not to delete any of the grout between the tiles.

13) Let the grout set for about 20 minutes. Do you want the grout to harden, but not cure it. Gently wipe the surface of the glass plates with a damp sponge. Again, make sure not to remove none of the grout between the tiles. Cleaning the surface is much easier when the grout has not been cured, if you wait 24 hours will be very difficult to clean. I stress that has to be very gentle to clean the surface using very light pressure and rinse the sponge frequently.

14) Allow the grout set for 24 hours and then clean the remaining haze by polishing the tiles with a dry cloth. Once you have completed the final cleaning, apply grout sealer according to manufacturer's instructions. The sealer will help to protect the grout and extend the life of the project.

That's it! While making and installing paper mosaic face can be quite a lengthy process, the results are often surprising. You can be proud to show off your new room. You friends and family will very impressed!

Anybody know a good supplier of glass mosaic art?

Yahooers Hello, I've been really in the manufacture of mosaics lately and wanted to know if anyone knows of a good, cheap online store can buy tiles, even if it is cheaper to buy uncut sheets. I did an online search of everything, but I'm sure I can find better deals than common searches that arise. If you know of any please post! Thanks a bunch!

I am also a mosaic artist and use more than windows in my projects that give more originality to my art. I frequent flea markets and garage sales and looking for unusual small items to add to my art. Some of the surprising findings that I found are a multitude of mirrors used are great to add to a project. Besides antique porcelain plates of all colors of great interest and add color to a project. I also like to incorporate small objects such as figurines or miniature teapots, plates and cups. Do not forget to comb the beaches for shells and stones of great unusually shapped. I also use accounts and boxes of old galss in my job and these too can be found at flea markets for less than you'd pay retail. Half the fun of this art for me is finding the mean to include in the subject. Have fun and send me a photo of your finished work. D
