Ten steps to laying tile

The procedure for placement of the tile is pretty straightforward. Follow these steps.

It is always useful to establish some tiles on the floor or counter in advance to see how it will look. Do not be afraid to establish a large patch. Best to decide now, before using adhesives, you do not like the aspect that was consolidated after down.

Dirt will make you always sure to vacuum in the south ¬ face thoroughly before starting. Carefully remove oily spotting.

1. Prepare the base. As the foundation of the house, the base of the slab must be sound so that it can stand up over time. Generally speak ¬ tion, whatever the basis that you choose should be solid, dry and smooth. A mortar base generally considered best for the counters, which can be precisely leveled. However, plywood and "WonderBoard, a concrete / fiberglass composite will, too. You can even use Dry-Wall, with certain precautions.

Before placing a plywood base on a countertop, make sure all cupboards are securely attached to the wall and each other. If the change cabinets, which can cause the plywood to move up or down, or even separate at the seams, resulting in cracks in the grout or the tiles.

A mortar bed is actually several layers thick. You can start with a plywood base, followed by cement, which is level. Then comes a waterproof membrane (to prevent moisture coming up from the bottom and leave the sticker). A base pattern wire is often added for strength. The top of the bed mortar is placed above it, followed by the adhesive thinset and tiles. Thus:

Tiles
Thinset adhesive
Mortar
Wire
Membrane
Plywood base

2. Draw the lines of work. By doing countertops, start with the sink and draw a line across, across the counter, before him.

If no sink, draw a line on the edge of the tile cutting. This will be your horizontal line of work. (Draw the line of courage right at ¬ face south.) Then draw another line perpendicular to help keep the tiles straight at each step.

By making the walls, start at the center of the most prominent fea ¬ ture, such as a tub or sink. Next, draw vertical and horizontal guide lines on the wall ¬. By making story start near the center of the room. Draw a straight edge wall to wall. This is your main line. Draw another line perpendicular to it. This is your secondary line. Follow the lines with the tile.

Avoid the temptation from one edge of the floor, desk or wall. You can save some tile cutting, but probably not end with straight lines or equi-looking balanced, both of which are much more important on the surface of tiles.

3. Apply adhesive. Use only as much thinset (cement adhesives ¬ sive), as can be covered with tile in a short period of time. Too much adhesive can dry before reaching to it, which requires cleaning hassle. Use a notched trowel with the size at first recommended by the manufacturer of the adhesive. Tail test to make sure it is ready for the tile. Place a piece of test tile down, then pull up. It should come with adhesive evenly across the back.

4. Set the tiles. Sure make room for the grout between them. Plastic spacers are a great help here, but be sure to remove after the glue has dried and before placing grout. When laying down tile on a counter, beginning with pictures of places and try to avoid dragging the tiles around the adhesive, making the past backsplash. When you story begins in the middle.

5. Form of tiles and cut using a cutter. Remember that the center is the easy part. Most of your time will be considered at the edges where you have to cut tiles to fit.

6. Ensure the design. Move the tiles slightly in the thinset to get just anywhere. That death created for half an hour, or whatever period the manufacturer recommends. Then come back and is compressed with a rubber mallet. This helps the adhesive to set and adhere to both the base and tables. (Do not tamp hard, so I do not want broken tiles!)

7. Clean. Remove excess adhesive from the surface of the paintings. Let the adhesive set tile (usually 24 to 48 hours).

8. Mix the grout. Use water sparingly. Allow the grout to "turn off" or the creation of at least 10 minutes. Then apply the grout using a rubber Trow on ¬. With a diagonal line down (at an angle of 45 degrees to the tile), push grout into the grooves. Make sure getting the most from the face sur ¬ boxes as possible.

The grout between the tiles should have a concave shape very good and very bulky to be. The way to accomplish this is to eliminate some of the slot nozzle, stopping just below the surface of the tile. Typically, the first time you try you think you are removing grout too. Probably not.

9. Clean the piece. Allow the grout to sit until it begins to harden (set). Then clean the surface with a damp sponge. Do not let too much water in the sponge, as dilute or remove the grout.

10. Let the grout cure. When forming a film on the tile (after about half an hour), remove with a clean cloth. He rubs away.

If you intend to use a tile snapper (a device to write a line on the tile, then breaks into two parts), the practice of some flat roof first. Snapper takes some getting used to. Be sure to use a pair of pliers for the round tile or hard courts. They cut the bullnose cut in a wet diamond saw (available for rent in the Many stores buildings). You can not afford to make mistakes in the finished tile with a snapper.

Plan on idle. Even professional tile workers can take days to install tile. Just remember that this is a sequential process that you put on a card after another. While you take care of each piece fits in is supposed to, you should be fine. Trying to rush it becomes a terrible job.

TOLADY BEDINGFELD. To whom,--as Fancy, taking longer flight, With folded arms upon her heart's high swell, Floating the while in circles of delight, And whispering to her wings a sweeter spell Than she has ever aim'd or dar'd before-- Shall I address this theme of minstrel lore? To whom but her who loves herself to roam Through tales of earlier times, and is at home With heroes and fair dames, forgotten long, But for romance, and lay, and lingering song? To whom but her, whom, ere my judgment knew, Save but by intuition, false from true, Seem'd to me wisdom, goodness, grace combin'd; The ardent heart; the lively, active mind? To whom but her whose friendship grows more dear, And more assur'd, for every lapsing year? One whom my inmost thought can worthy deem Of love, and admiration, and esteem!
