Countless time in my career, I have asked "What can we use ceramic tile on bathroom walls, backsplash, patio, kitchen and so on "

My answer is in the form of a question. Where are you installing? Flat? Wall? Shelves? Patio?

When it comes to what the use of tiles on the wall, floor or patio, people have no idea what to use. Customer enjoy it when someone explains what tiles to use for their design projects.

Helping someone to make a decision that put your mind at ease and knowing that they have a good selection ceramic tile for your design project is a very rewarding experience for me.

The buzzword for the past few years has been porcelain tile. That's all very well if looking at a ceramic piece that the difference between a piece of china or porcelain tile. If a card is not made of porcelain is a ceramic piece. That assumption is correct.

Ceramic tiles are made of red clay and some white clay. Red body tiles are easy to identify, where like tile white pulp are almost impossible to say whether or not porcelain.

Here is where the word of the tile manufacturer comes into play. Manufacturers reputable tile tile boxes "porcelain" if they are porcelain.

The best, as Dal-Tile (R) Marazzi (R), Crossville (R) Porcelanosa (R) Emser (R), to name a few, the label if their porcelain and ceramic tile if it is not porcelain.

Porcelain tiles have a much slower rate of absorption of water from a ceramic tile. This is because very dense. These tiles are baked at temperatures of 1800 degrees for a tile surface colorered to 2200 degrees for over a color or through body tile. Through procelains body have the same color from front to back, so a chip will not be displayed both as a mosaic which has only a surface color.

PROCELAIN tables can be used outside in climates where temperatures drop below 32 degrees. They are called cold-resistant.

The density of a porcelain tile makes it suitable for residential and light commercial use. Ideal for use in a yard that is exposed to elements. No water damage.

Ceramic and porcelain tiles are used and assessed by the Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI). This rating system tables is approved by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ATSM).

These are:

PEI 1 Rating (Not enough to walk on) use on the walls only.

PEI 2 Rating (traffic light) Use the wall and bathrooms only. A word of caution. the larger the tile, 6x6 8x8 in soil can break with long standing traffic.

PEI 3 Rating (moderate traffic light) The use in the kitchen and bath, walls and floors on foot, where traffic is not heavy. (Residential)

PEI 4 Rating (moderate to heavy traffic) in the residential, commercial and light institutional setting.

PEI 5 Rating (Heavy to very heavy traffic), use in all residential heavier commercial (malls, airports) and institutional application. (prisons).

Porcelain tile with a PEI rating of 5 means they are very resistant to chipping or cracking.

Value is added to the value of a house when added ceramic tile. Installinf ceramic tile or porcelain in a home adds value to the house making it easier to sell.
