mortar or mastic for tiling tub surround?

I will be the installation of 8 "x10" ceramic tile on cement board. Any suggestions on whether to use thin-set mortar or mastic? Are there advantages to using one over the other? I have not hung the cement board yet.I think Durock instructions say to leave out the smooth side of the caulk out with the rough side mortar. However, I also read that some people get a thin layer of mortar before the installation, who refuses to let the rough side for mortar? I appreciate any advice.

Absolutely NOT use glue or putty "PREMIXED" [In reality no more than putty] in the tub surround. That no one says otherwise does not know what they're talking about. On the subject skim coat. Pro flame that burns in applying a thin layer of glue on the wall a flat paddle, just prior to loading and distribution of the ridges. It is intended to ensure that you have 100% coverage on the wall [sometimes notched trowel not get 100%.] I would also advise brushing the back of the boxes if they have deep grooves. Want to avoid gaps [airbags] as much as possible. It is possible you want to see "Redguard" while you're looking at the tile forum. is a waterproofing membrane, in a can, which "painted" on the CBU. That is fine for the DIY'er

What are the materials needed for installing ceramic tile floors and walls?

You need RIDGID sub-floor or concrete slab, a putty or cement for laying the tile, and some kind of mortar to fill the cracks. Some methods also use spacers to adjust the spacing between adjacent tiles. Sometimes a sealant is applied later. Don
